The Weekend Plan - I'm back from the Grand Opening of OverTime@Dempsey Hill and though there was an initial hassle to get to Dempsey from Bugis, it was well worth the trip!
Together with Darren (aka CX), we arrived with several other bloggers as members of the media and were ushered to a nice corner for our buffet dinner and free flow of drinks. Seriously, the food is good and better still, the beer - Starker Beer is even better. More on that great stuff later..
My first impression when I entered OverTime is that the place is pretty well-designed to cater to the 'live' band performances that it offers. There is a stage right at the center of the outlet where Singapore's homegrown music talents can perform (OverTime supports local music - nice...). Chilling out is best at the garden-inspired, alfresco area of the outlet where it's airy and you don't suffer the effects of 'live' music in an enclosed area. The staffs are generally friendly and you just get the feeling that it's a nice, cosy little slack to chill out and unwind after work... it's literally OverTime! (I'm pretty sure that's how the name came about!)
Anyway, the Grand Opening was a pretty grand affair, red-carpet and all that and there was a pretty good crowd. Local independent band - 3 Sessions entertained throughout with their own version of popular radio hits like Coldplay's Lost! and they were easy on the ear. BUT the main draw of the night was definitely special guest Taiwanese International celebrity - Lin Chi-lin! Ok, Patricia Mok and David Gan were there too but...hahhaah you get my point!
Well, Chi-lin is just like how she appears on TV, really gorgeous to the point that it's almost flawless. But seriously, you'd expect that from a true celebrity - groomed to the tiniest cell on the body. But nonetheless, she does appear genuine and down-to-earth which for me is a really nice even if I'm not a big fan of hers.
Anyway, she did a fleeting appearance like for five minutes or so but the beer - Starker Beer was there throughout the night.
According to the media release, Starker Beer was a Double Gold Medal Winner in the recent Asia Beer Awards 2010 under the "Wheat Beer" and "Pilsner" categories. I don't drink that much beer to be much of a critic though I thought Tiger Beer was decent until I tasted Hoegaarden. Now, tasting neither too light nor too bitter, Starker Beer beats them all for me!
OverTime@Dempsey Hill is located at:

The crowd gathers...
The Grand Opening of OverTime@Dempsey Hill

3 Sessions jams...
The staff rocks!
My media pass...
Starker Beer!
The crowd anticipates the arrival...
Lin Chi-lin appears and all the cameras flash off!
Screw the iPhone!
Figured out it's easier to capture Lin Chi-lin on the TV screen!
