Buffet High Tea@Marriott Cafe

The Weekend Plan - I'm gonna be really honest here...unless you have extra cash, don't spend your last dollar on the Buffet High Tea at Marriott! Actually, you need probably a good $50 for the buffet since it's $30-39 per pax before GST and service charge.

Well, it's supposed to be an international buffet and yup, they do have dim sum, local chicken rice and dishes, indian curry, sushi and... not too many stuff I can remember to be honest!

I went for the Buffet High Tea on Friday afternoon and after my first round of fairly small proportion, I didn't know what to look for for my second round! You see, they do have different cuisines as mentioned earlier, but the variety for each style of cuisine is rather limited and seriously there's nothing there to whet my appetite...

Maybe if I were to be a little less critical, the Hainanese chicken rice is still passable. The meat is just okay but it's the rice that just about makes the grade. I mean, it really is like one of the few things that I went for a second round.

Forget the dim sum. The dumplings, fried dumplings (siew mai nowhere to be found) are a waste of your stomach space.

The curry doesn't look appetizing enough in it's small pot for me to try it and the local dishes are just okay only. Oh, in case you are wondering, there were only like 3, 4 local dishes which I saw - the soya-sauced chicken and minced chicken meat being just okay for me to remember them. And ya, there is the oyster omelette which was like super duper salty...Eeew...

And then what? Nothing else really...the food mentioned above are like seriously ok at best. The only thing that got me interested in was the oyster and prawns. And maybe the ice-cream. But still nothing much to crow about cos...The servings for the oyster is like so little! Every 10-15 minutes or so, the waiter brings out that tiny portion of oyster that you have to be really quick to get your hands on it. The prawns are ok, at least they are big - but they were actually my substitutes for the oyster when I failed to get them the first time. (The prawns are placed just beside the oysters by the way.)

The ice-cream? Not much food to crow about so it's over to the ice-cream since most ice-creams taste alright and it does taste alright especially with the variety of toppings they have here. But again, I only tried the chocolate basically cos the rest of the flavours are almost empty! I'd have to scrape the walls just for it!

To cut the long story short, there is nothing much to savour other than mainly the oysters!

So, don't expect to see me near Marriott for its buffet especially at that price. If there's anything that I can give it credit for, it's the really polite and efficient waiter and waitresses (cleared my table really fast..) Other than that, I think it's better to save the money for better variety and better taste.

My first attempt at the oysters - all gone! (on the right)Finally! The only passable food - prawns and oysters...

PS: To be fair, maybe the pastries could be good. I am not a fan of pastries and though there's quite a bit of choice here, I still don't expect myself to pay that much just for the pastries!
